1979 Pontiac Firebird The 1979 Firebird was re-designed with new graphics and a front nose with quad rectangular headlamps that stood in separate bezels with a new grille below them. 1969 Pontiac Firebird The 1969 Pontiac Firebird underwent major restyling to incorporate revisions similisr to that of the Camaro. New changes included; New rooflines, front fender wind splints, flatter wheel openings and a new front, rear and interior, as well as a slight increas in "POWER" with the Ram Air IV, previously known as the Ram Air 400. The 400 HO option was known as either the Ram Air, Ram Air II, or simply HO. In the spring of 69' Pontiac released a little publicized option package, the Trans Am Performance and Appearance Package. Pontiac paid a $5 license fee to SCCA for each Trans Am produced and sold to campaign in the SCCA's road racing series. 1967 Pontiac Firebird Ready to compete in the new and competitive Pony car market, Pontiac joined the action with a new Firebird in 1967. First released about 5 months after the Camaro the Firebird shared the same chassis and several body parts with the Camaro. The difference came with the distinct styling and engine options. With a split front grille, beaked hood, and GTO-slitted taillights the new firebird had a distinct Pontiac appearance and could be had with a V-6 or V-8 engine option.
